History Of Dubai in Brief
Posted on: February 22, 2010History Of Dubai in Brief
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a union of seven states, called Emirates. One of these states, and perhaps the most progressive, is Dubai. Some records actually indicate that Dubai has been in existence for about one-and-a-half centuries before the UAE was formed.
There are very few accounts of the culture that prevailed in the southeastern part of the Arabian peninsula prior to the time of Islam. The evidences and accounts gathered so far have sufficed in the meantime to make some headway in tracing back the history of Dubai.
The discovery, for instance, of some material traces of an ancient mangrove swamp (estimated at 70 centuries) during the laying of the sewer lines near the Dubai Internet City on Sheikh Zayed Road led to the conclusion that the area had been blanketed by sand some fifty centuries ago as the coastline receded inland. This has now become a part of Dubai's present coastline.
Some records indicate that many of the old places in that southeastern part of the Arabian peninsula served as trading centers between the East and the West. Before the time of Islam, the region was dominated by the Azd (a pre-Islamic Arabian tribe). The Azd worshipped Bajar, a minor deity.
During that period, two powers lorded it over the region. These are the Byzantine (Eastern Roman) and the Sassanid (Persian) empires. The latter controlled a big part of the region.
When much of the region was converted to Islam, the Umayyad Caliphate took control of the region from the Sassanids. The Dubai Museum undertook excavations in the region of Jumeirah and discovered a number of material evidences believed to be from the period of the Umayyads.
Here are some of the earliest records that made mention of Dubai:

Watercolor The Basics
Posted on: February 19, 2010Watercolor - The Basics
Whether natural artist or not, there are always rules to follow first. Mastery of the rules allows us to break it with wonderful results but that will come later. It all starts with the basics.
In watercolor as with any other disciplines, there are several techniques to be learned first. Mastering the techniques will allow you to gain control of the medium, ease you nicely into the art form aside from cutting the learning curve.
Thumbnails
This is the planning stage. Thumbnails are not basics in watercolor painting but unless very skilled, you will experience a lot of difficulties without the thumbnails first. Thumbnails are the sketches you do that in order to break down the images you would finally want on the painting. Doing thumbnails first makes the painting more manageable and prevent errors. And so during this stage, draw thumbnails until satisfied of the image that would finally appear in the finished painting.
The Wash
There are different watercolor washes and corresponding effects. Basically though, a wash is a term used for loading the brush with plenty of water and some pigment and painting it over the paper. Washes are typically used for backgrounds in watercolor painting. It is almost synonymous with laying the foundation from which the images desired in the painting is laid. To develop and learn to control washes, try experimenting with different color intensity and hues. To lighten a particular shade, all you need to do is add water. Conversely, to darken an area would be to add a little more pigment.
The Glaze
Glazing is similar to the wash except that it is used to change the temperature of the color underneath (the wash). To glaze is to add another layer of color to an existing color, not really to erase the coloring underneath but to change the temperament or create another color in combination with the wash color. It is well to note that watercolor being a transparent medium cannot be fully erased or fully covered by another color. To this end, glazing has become a tool unique to watercolor painting.
Tinting
To apply additional tint to an existing wash or color, wait for the color that was first applied to dry before applying a tint. To apply tint on a wash that is still wet would create effects that unless that is the intent, the painting would be ruined.

What Are Spells
Posted on: February 17, 2010What Are Spells
In a word, spells mean prayers. For some, it would look like "magic prayers". Prayers, as everyone knows, affect the very fabric of reality itself when uttered and requested.
When there is a tear in this reality, a prayer repairs and restructures that part of the fabric once again, restoring it to its pristine, original self. This is one of the ways how the universe renews itself.
With each spell performed, every prayer, each word within every prayer (and even the very letters of the words of every prayer) has a precise meaning aimed for a precise effect. And, thus producing the final result of a successful spell casting.
Divine intervention
When a spell is asked to be performed on your behalf, you are actually asking for a Divine intervention to take place in your situation. It is extremely important for you to understand that spells are not playthings to toy around.
The main point is that you have what the person is doing for you. In requesting a spell on your behalf, you must take the time to understand the type of spells the spell caster will perform.
Through the ages, there are many types of practices that can issue spells. Some of them would include Alchemy, Animism, Bonpo, Druidry, Egyptian Enochian, Hermeticism, Mantrik Hinduism, Hoodoo, Huna, Jewish Withcraft, Hermetic Qabalah, Nagualism, Quimbanda, Reiki, Santeria, Shamanism, Voodoo, Wicca, and many more listed around the world.
Protocols
In all of these styles, you have to understand that each requires a particular set of protocols and things you have to give up. The most important would be the rules that you will have to follow.
In some, the spells are accompanied by talismans and charms or amulets in order for these spells to work. This is not actually true for all of them, only on some intense, lower spells.

Posted on: February 15, 2010Learn To Play Drums
Playing the drums is a fun hobby. However, you need to remember that it's also one of the most difficult musical instruments to learn. If you want to play drums like rock legends Travis Barker or Lars Ulrich, then you need to be ready to work hard and to practice a lot.

So, what do you need in order to get started?
First of all, you will obviously need a drum set or a drum kit. But before you go to your local music store to purchase a drum set, you need to keep in mind that as a beginner drummer, you don't have to get a drum set with an elaborate set up. The basic drum set will do.
The basic drum set will include one bass drum, a snare drum, 3 tom-toms, a crash cymbal, and a hi-hat. You will also need a chair, a bass pedal, and drum sticks.
Next, you will need to get proper lessons. You can go for online lessons, or you can also hire a professional drummer to give you private tutorials or lessons. There are also DVDs and video CDs, which contain drum lessons that you can purchase.
There are quite a lot of DVDs and CDs today that can teach you about the different drumming techniques and how to learn it the easy way. There are even exercises that you can do in order for you to practice your dexterity and coordination, which are very important in drumming.
Now that you have the equipments you need as well as a professional drummer to teach you on how to play the drums along with the DVDs and CDs that contain drum lessons, the next step is to make sure that no one will be upset by the noise you make when you play your drums during lessons or during practice.
Try creating a quiet room. If you have the cash for it, you can convert an entire room to a studio complete with fancy soundproofing and high tech acoustic materials. If you don't have the money for high tech soundproofing, you can still create a quiet room with a little ingenuity and elbow grease. To make your own quiet room, you can line the walls and ceiling of the room with egg trays and carpet scraps.

All About Multiple Sclerosis
Posted on: February 12, 2010All About Multiple Sclerosis
What is it?
It has been scientifically determined that multiple sclerosis can potentially debilitate a person. This means that the body's own immune system attacks the sheath that protects the nerves. Once this sheath is damaged or totally destroyed, the normal communication between the person's brain and the rest of the body is interfered. This condition results into the deteriorating of the nerves, a complication that can never be reversed.
Its symptoms
The symptoms of multiple sclerosis may vary depending on how much damage has occurred to the nerves that are affected. Those who have the severe type of multiple sclerosis can end up being bedridden since their ability to walk or to talk is destroyed.
What is very bothersome about these symptoms is that they tend to come and go. This means that they could suddenly arrive and then suddenly disappear for a few months. This is why doctors find it initially difficult to diagnose multiple sclerosis during its early stages.
Multiple sclerosis symptoms are also usually manifested by people between the ages of twenty and forty. Although multiple sclerosis can happen to anyone from any age, this is the common age range that is affected. Also, according to statistical research, the women are the ones who usually carry this debilitating disorder.
There is numbness or fatigue in one limb or both. This kind of weakness usually occurs on just one side of the body at a single time. However, there have been reports that it could happen to the entire bottom part of the body. This condition is often accompanied with a tingling sensation that is sometimes painful in some parts of the body.
There is also a partial or a complete visual loss which starts at one time then ends with having pain whenever both eyes move. This condition is given the medical term of optic neuritis. Apart from loss of vision, double vision or blurring of vision can also occur.
There could also be sensations like electrical shock that occur whenever the head is moved. Tremors also happen with the accompaniment of absence of coordination and imbalanced gait.
Many who have multiple sclerosis might experience relapses of the symptoms, especially during the early stages of the disorder. This relapsing phase is often followed by partial or complete remission.

Learn Standup Comedy
Posted on: February 08, 2010How to Learn Standup Comedy on Your Own
So your friends think you are a real riot after you have consumed a few bottles of beer. Your girlfriend may be laughing her heart out even at your lamest jokes. You might inevitably think you have the natural gift of humor. Why not turn it into a lucrative career? You should know how to learn standup comedy so you could transform yourself into an instant celebrity and you could earn more money.
It is hard to make people laugh. If you have the natural ability to do that, you should use that gift very well. Not all people are born that way. You could further develop your humor so that you could stand up and face hundreds of people to make them laugh. Here are several effective ways on how you could learn standup comedy on your own.
Study great comedians
You could learn from the bests. Watch live or rent videos of popular stand-up shows featuring no less than the masters. Carefully study how they make people laugh. Analyze what makes them really funny. This way, you could learn comedic timing on your own. This is critical for every standup comedian.
Take note of how each comedian assumes a different persona. For example, Adam Sandler is often naïve and silly. Chris Rock makes people laugh by being an angry man, while Dennis Miller does great in political ranting. Decide what kind of a stage persona you should develop. However, do not imitate a comedian's exact personality or try to steal his material. To be truly funny, be unique. Avoid Carrot Top as you aim to be funny. Perhaps, you just need to focus on yourself and develop your own personality so you could get funnier.
Write your routine
Try to write your material everyday. Carry a small notebook or a pocket tape recorder wherever you go so you could write down or record any humorous idea of observation you may have. Compile your notes into a single ideal folder. Try to assemble all your best stuff. Write at least a five-minute long routine for every funny observation.
When writing your own comedy material, remember to write only what you know. In this way, it is advisable to touch subjects that are timely and that truly interest you. You may talk about sports, politics, history, relationships, and family. Every anecdote or joke should feature a setup and a punch line (the funny part).

Learn Spanish
Posted on: February 05, 2010Learn Spanish
In an interconnected world of business and almost everything else, knowing a language or two aside from your own native tongue is definitely an advantage. Learning Spanish is one of the best choices one can make in today's perspective.
For most people engaged in business and commerce, Spanish is the most popular choice as a 2nd or 3rd language. The reason is simple: it is 4th most commonly spoken language all over the world. By some accounts, it has more native speakers than English.
In Europe, it is getting to be the most important foreign language of choice after English. In the United States, Spanish is the 2nd largest spoken language after English. It is the official language on four continents.
Better English
For much of the American population, English is spoken without much understanding. Learning Spanish helps improve one's understanding of English.
One reason for this is the fact that much of the English vocabulary has Latin origins by way of French incorporated into English. Spanish is a Latin language and learning its linguistic intricacies will provide a better understanding of the English language as a whole. Likewise, both Spanish and English have the same Indo-European ancestry that is shared in the similarity of their grammars.
Better understanding of the moods and tenses of English verbs can be had by learning how these verbs are used in Spanish. The study of Spanish actually forces one to reflect on how the English language is structured.
Culture
Language is one of the best ways to understand the culture of other people. Short of living in a Spanish villa, eating their food and singing their songs, learning Spanish somehow infuses these cultural aspects in the language itself.
In learning Spanish, one imbibes the feel and spirit of the people through its rich literary traditions by way of novels and stories, modern or traditional. Whether one reads a Latin American newspaper or watches a film made in Spain, one gains that particular feel of the Spanish soul.
Travel
In a world that gets smaller everyday because of frequent travels of people, Spanish is one language that is understood in many parts of the globe. It is almost guaranteed that you will never get lost in South and Central America, including Mexico and Puerto Rico in the north.
Moreover, because of your Spanish you will get to see more interesting places and enjoy more interesting experiences than the regular tourists who do not speak the language.

Learn Hindi
Posted on: February 03, 2010A Short Primer On Learning Hindi
As of last count, Hindi is said to be spoken by more than 180 million people of India and even considering it as their mother tongue. Another 300 million people use Hindi as a second language. Together with English, it is the main official language of India.
These figures are apart from those that speak Hindi from many parts of the world like Yemen, Singapore, South Africa, Fiji, Nepal, New Zealand and even in the United States. This does not include the 41 million in Pakistan who spoke its twin language, Urdu.
This makes Hindi a language spoken by one of the largest groups of people in the whole world, second perhaps only to Mandarin Chinese.
Hindi is directly derived from one of the world's oldest languages, Sanskrit. Through the ages, it had been influenced and enriched by other languages such as Farsi, Arabic, Dravidian, Turkish and even Portuguese and English.
Poetic and rational
Because of its very long tradition and nature, it had been known to be a very expressive language. It can convey complex emotions even with simple and gentle words. On the other hand, it can stand up to exact uses in rational thinking.
Indian song and dance films are mostly done in Hindi. These films are very popular not only in India but in many parts of India and the world by people who do not even speak Hindi or Urdu.
Learning tips
It had been known that when studying a new language, everything in that language seemed more complicated than your own native language. Later, students would find that once the lessons start to come, and seeing words forming into sentences, the new language does not seem so intimidating after all.
This is also true with Hindi.
It is also comforting to know that the Hindi language is easy to pick up, easier than most people think. Reason? It is spoken exactly as it is written. In no time at all, the student will b able to read Hindi just as good as speaking it.
Alphabet
Learning a new language must begin with the alphabet because this is the basis for all speech and writing. Hindi Varnamala is the name of the Indian alphabet.
The Varnamala has 52 sounds. To be able to read, you must be able to master 10 vowels, 40 consonants, and 2 vocalizing techniques (nasalization and a kind of aspiration).

Keeping Chickens
Posted on: February 01, 2010Keeping Chickens
Gone are the days when chickens were only kept for their eggs and meat. Nowadays, people take a liking for chickens because of their domestic appeal, and many would even claim that they get a sense of kinship with their poultry, that same kinship people get from common pets such as cats and dogs.
But before you entertain the idea of keeping chickens as pets, you have to check the local zoning laws in your area for the simple fact that some counties prohibit the housing of "farm animals". Once you're able to verify this, the one thing left to do is to pick the particular breed of the chickens you want to have as your constant feathery companions.
You will need to have extensive knowledge of which breeds are most suitable to your preference. A bit of visual appeal can also go a long way into sparking and maintaining interest. A chicken can have a variety of colors and styles to choose from - red, gold, brown, spotted, dappled, high-tailed, bushy tailed, feather-legged, the list goes on. Be very nit-picky, for it's your sole responsibility to ensure that your chickens are not only well fed, but also nurtured and yes, loved. Why keep a pet in the first place if you're not going to shower it with attention?
If there are kids always hanging around the chicken coop, it might be advisable to choose the smaller breed, or in poultry talk - bantam chickens. That way, kids won't be afraid of them, and will be drawn to them as much as they do to small pets like rabbits and cats. It goes without saying that you need to pick one that is young, more preferably a one-day old chick. This gives the bird ample time to get domesticated and get used to being handled by people. The birds won't "fly the coop" and be predisposed to hurt anyone every time people get close to them. In that parlance, hens make better pets than cockerels since they are more docile in nature. The fact that hens are capable of providing you a steady supply of eggs without the requirement of fertilization only fuels that premise. Sexing the chicken is not as easy as it looks, so you are better off asking the help of a "chick sexer" if you're not well trained to do it on your own.

Child Custody
Posted on: January 27, 2010Child Custody
For those uninitiated, child custody is one issue they would rather not delve into. However, since divorce naturally brings with it the thorny problem of child custody and other attendant problems, people are now curious about certain aspects of it.
The following are some common questions asked by people who are not quite in the know. The answers are collated responses from some child custody lawyers.
Child custody laws are not the same in all the states in the U.S. The following answers are mostly in general terms inasmuch as they apply and/or recognized by the courts all over the country.
What is custody?
"Custody" means who is responsible for the children in cases when their parents do not live together. This applies to couples who are separated, divorced, or never married.
How is physical custody different from legal custody?
Physical custody means the child would spend time living with that parent on a regular basis. If it is a "joint physical custody", the child shuttles between each parent's homes.
If a parent has "sole legal custody", that parent has the right to make decisions on the child's health, education, and overall welfare (doctor, schools, etc). In "joint legal custody" both parents share the decisions.
How is a decision made?
The judge usually approves a custody plan agreed on by the parents. If they cannot, they will have to speak with a mediator or counselor to work out a plan. The judge will decide on any disputed issue both parties are unable to resolve.
Can a child still see a parent not awarded physical custody?
The court will order that the other parent is given generous visitation with the child. However, this might be restricted in cases of domestic violence, or the parent's inability to care for the child.

The Benefits Of Aerobics
Posted on: January 25, 2010The Benefits Of Aerobics
One of today's most popular exercises is aerobics. The one version we know of is what we usually see practiced in gyms with groups, often led by an instructor and filled with some bouncy music.
However, aerobics actually include more physical activities than that. Walking, jogging, biking, dancing, swimming, basketball, skiing and many more physical activities can all be performed aerobically.
Loosely defined, aerobics is any physical activity done with moderate levels of intensity and for an extended period of time. Those activities with frequent breaks in-between are not considered aerobic (like doing a 100-meter sprint).
Primary benefits
Most aerobic exercises are geared towards making the heart pump faster than it ordinarily does, and makes your breathing faster and quicker. Working the heart this way makes it stronger and more efficient in helping the circulation in the body.
Because of efficient circulation, the mood of the person doing the exercise becomes elevated, and the energy level increases.
Inside the body, the number of red blood cells also increases. This, in turn, helps in making the system more efficient in transporting oxygen all over the body.
Aside from a healthy heart and an efficient circulation system in action, the body benefits greatly because of increased oxygen delivered by the blood to all parts. After a while, the muscles become trained for endurance as well.
In turn, this strengthens the muscles, especially those related to respiration including the flow of air in and out of the lungs. Overall, the body's muscles become toned which again helps improve circulation and reduce high blood pressure.
In high-impact aerobics (which includes jogging or jumping rope), bone growth is stimulated. This helps in reducing osteoporosis risk in men and women alike.

Waste Management 101
Posted on: January 15, 2010Waste Management 101
Waste management is all about collecting, transporting, processing, recycling and disposing waste materials. Proper waste disposal is always needed to make sure that their harmful effects to the human population or environment are reduced. There are different kinds of waste management procedures when handling solid, liquid, gas and radioactive wastes. Aside from that, different fields like agriculture, mining, and healthcare have strict regulations to follow for waste disposal.
There are studies conducted showing that about 90 percent of wastes disposed every year mainly come from industrialized countries, which is about 325-375 million tons of toxic and hazardous waste. Countries are expressing their concern about the rising number of wastes being disposed every year. According to the United Nations, there are 60 percent of countries worldwide expressing their waste concern in the 1992 Earth Summit.
Improper waste disposal can cause big problems to human health. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) states that there are about five million fatalities every year because of diseases related to improper waste disposal. For example, stagnant water and pile of wastes in the backyard could actually be a source of dengue, tetanus or vermin related disease like leptospirosis.
Not all management practices are the same, industrial waste management would of course be different from household waste disposal. Urban and rural waste management are also different. Which why there are people who are primarily employed as waste specialists officers and whose job is to ensure that wastes are properly disposed.
Every county would also have their own waste disposal method. There are government agencies and local government units that provide waste collection services, they would often have partnerships with private waste management companies. For example, in Australia, every curb would have three collection bins like one for the recyclables, general and garden wastes. Households are encouraged to start composting to reduce wastes. This is the same waste collection done in Canada. In Taipei, households and industries are charged for the volume of their wsastes produced.
In waste management there is something known as the waste hierarchy or the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle. This 3 Rs remains to be the basis of waste management programs, technologies and strategies being developed. Government programs implemented are based on these principles, for example in the United States there are states that would implement regulations of non-collection of yard wastes to encourage households to recycle.
Another program implemented by the government would be the extended product responsibility or the EPR. This is a strategy that would ensure that manufacturers would be responsible for their products after they were disposed by the consumers. The method used in Taiwan is also known as the Polluter Pays Principle. The polluter would pay for the impact of their waste on the environment.

Why Visit Venice
Posted on: January 12, 2010Why Visit Venice?
Asking a group of people why they want to visit Venice might give you the same number of answers as the number of people. Everyone has a reason or reasons for visiting Venice and all of their answers are true and correct.
Venice is one unique place where almost everything is interesting, worth looking into and worth taking a photo. They are worth touching with your fingers. Sometimes, you seem to be able to inhale that peculiar combined fragrance of the sea, the land, and the history of the place.
The sites and the sights
Before going to any site you fancy, take time first to soak in the city. Simply walk around its small streets and alleys. You may stop by at the famous St. Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge, although at most times of the day they are choked with tourists. If your stay is longer, come back in the evening (or early mornings) when the crowd is thinner.
The Basilica di San Marco is beside the square, and it is one of the biggest attractions in all of Venice. The entry is free, although you have to stand in line for the long queue - but it is worth the wait. The church's interiors are all done in mosaic from walls to ceilings to the floors, and it takes your breath away.
Right next to the basilica is the Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) where the former rulers of the city lived. There is an entry fee to the palace, but this is the only way you can traverse the famous Bridge of Sighs which leads to the courtroom. Inside is Tintoretto's "Paradise", the world's largest oil painting.
Three of the small islands most famous to tourists are Murano, Burano, and Torcello. The closest is Murano, famous for its glass-making all over the world, and large groups of tourists usually crowd shops demonstrating some glass-blowing techniques. You may watch or you can go the other way and perhaps find out-of-the-way shops that do the same thing and satisfy your curiosity without jostling with the crowd.
Then, there is Burano, formerly famous for its lace-making in the past, although most of the island's inhabitants are fishermen. What strike your eyes' fancy are the colors of the houses. They are all painted in the brightest of colors, and are so distinctive and fascinating even from a distance. They say the reason for this was to help the fishermen returning late from a long day at sea find their right homes fast and easy.
Torcello is the farthest and has the fewest people actually living on it. It has fewer tourists too, and you can have the oldest church in Venice all to yourself and some few fellows. The church also has its walls and floor done in mosaic, just like St. Mark's Basilica.
All these are just some of the big reasons why one wants to visit Venice. And we have not even talked about the gondolas and the gondoliers and moving about in those watery alleys. We have not mentioned about the famous yearly Venice carnivals, the masks, the costumes, the merry-making and the music.

The Basic Truck Accessories
Posted on: January 08, 2010The Basic Truck Accessories
Your truck can be used for different purposes. Accessories would help you define the primary purpose of your truck. It is not just enough to have truck. Truck accessories are not just simple add-ons to your truck, they can give your car personality and make it functional.
Truck accessories are different from the other parts of the truck, like the water pumps, radiators, and other hard parts. These parts are meant to enhance the function of the truck and would be sold separately from the car. Among the most common or popular truck accessories are grill guards, tonneau covers, tool boxes and bed extenders.
Truck accessories became popular among truck owners during the 1990s, when different truck manufacturers failed to make the appearance of their trucks better. Suppliers started with accessories that would actually enhance the function of the truck like snowplows.
Eventually, the market grew and more truck owners are looking for other modifications that would complete their trucks. Soon enough, manufacturers started to accommodate the demands of the consumers. Currently, truck accessory manufacturers and suppliers have formed their own trade association called the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).
Some truck owners find it difficult to start thinking what their truck needs. Actually, it starts with an easy question. How would you use your truck? This would help truck owners identify what accessories they really need. There are different stores, whether in your local area or on the internet, where you could choose different truck accessories based on your preference and need. When checking online stores, check on their credibility and the kind of customer service they provide. You could check the feedback portion of the site to get any information from previous customers.
Some truck owners get really confused with what accessories they should really get for their trucks. There are quite a number of accessories that adds security and improves the performance of the car. For example, there are accessories that stabilize shocks and other program tuners. There are also interior covers and floor liners.
There are different kinds of accessories that will help you customize the internal and external part of the vehicle. There are also some exterior accessories that would help the car protected from debris, mud, sand, stone and other fragments in the roads. Another basic truck accessory would be the fender flare which builds endurance against impacts and temperature.
Truck accessories are in different colors, sizes and materials. Like the truck bed, it could have hard or soft covers and could be in different designs. Experts would sometimes suggest, that it is better to start exterior modifications before proceeding into making internal changes. Starting with the exterior could help you identify what direction you're going to which will make it easier for you to match everything.
Causes Of Shyness
Posted on: January 05, 2010Causes Of Shyness
At one time or another in our lives, we have had experienced shyness. As children, it is a normal temporary behavior, considered part of normal development.
It comes in roughly two waves: first, at around the ages of 5 to 6 months and again at about age 2. Shyness becomes evident at about age 3. Problems arise when shyness hampers with the child's relationships with the others, in social situations, school, etc.
Defined as a fear of, or withdrawal from other people or social situations, shyness may have several causes depending on the particular child and the specific circumstances.
Shyness is a behavior parents should not ignore on their child. On the part of the child, it can be a very painful emotion to live with, and it will definitely affect the other aspects of his life all the way to his adulthood.
For starters, shy children develop low self-esteem and its attendant lack of self-confidence. This results into a real difficulty for the shy child to make friends. Moreover, they do not usually receive the needed help from their teachers.
Some reasons for shyness
As had been cited before, shyness can have several causes. Each case, however, is unique for each child. Some may have one specific cause, while others may have a combination of causes that feed on each other.
*Heredity Some research showed that shyness runs in the family. However, science could not yet pinpoint if there is a specific gene for it. It could be that children learn the shyness behavior from their parents through example.
*Modeling or learned behavior. As is noted from the above observations, children may have acquired their shyness habit from watching how their parents interact with other people. As statistics show, shy parents usually have shy children.
*Difficulty with frequent exposure to new situations. Children are repeatedly exposed to new situations. Unfortunately, not all children can cope with these, and those that cannot tend to withdraw.
*Overprotective parents. Children who are overprotected lack the opportunities to be socially independent. Growing up, they lack the confidence needed to make their own decisions. Their later insecurities will trigger shyness.
*Inconsistent parenting. Parenting practices that are not consistent cause confusion and insecurity in children. This behavior can lead to shyness. Examples would be punishing the child for a breach of rules at one time and yet letting it pass on the next incidence.
*Lack of parental involvement. Some parents believe that letting children on their own promotes a child's independent attitude. This is a mistake because children with no experience need constant guidance from parents. Other parents don't have the time nor the inclination to involve themselves. This is another tragic mistake. Decreased parental involvement makes the child believe his unworthy status and will feel uncomfortable in social situations.
Teasing, threats, criticisms. When children are frequently teased, threatened or criticized either by their family or by other people, they will eventually develop the expectation of only negative feedback from others. This will lead to their evading actions in social situations and contact with other people.

Postcard marketing is just one of the many methods that you can use to market your business or products. Marketing for different businesses will help make them increase sales as well as profits. Not only that, it can also help improve brand visibility and recognition. But it all depends on what marketing methods are being used. Postcard marketing is just one of them.
Postcard marketing in itself can easily be understandable by the method that it uses. It is simply a type of direct marketing that makes use of postcards mailed to potential customers. This marketing method has been already used for decades. It is still being used simply because it is quite very effective in reaching out to its market.
Postcard marketing aims to attract customers through the use of postcards that act as mini-billboards for your business. Postcard marketing can be one of the most affordable means of marketing your products directly to homes as well as customers. But their effectiveness depends on how you try to use them.

What to consider when giving party favors
Posted on: December 30, 2009What to consider when giving party favors
Party favors are the least of people's priorities when they are organizing a party these days. After all, one usually will only have a budget for the food and the entertainment and nothing left for other expenses. But those who do find a small piece of the pie chart and dedicate it to party favors muck up the whole process of giving party favors that it would have been better if they didn't give any. For me, it is better to give nothing than to give the wrong thing.
One of the most basic things that you should remember when choosing and buying a party favor kit is the purpose of giving it. It is a souvenir that will hopefully make the person remember your party and your event. Remember this when thinking of party favor ideas. Most people think that it is enough to just give a small token of a useless thing just as long as it has their names, the date and indicates what the occasion is. They don't realize that for their guests to actually remember them through the party favor that they gave, it should be something that they can use, preferably every day. The party favor should not only be beautiful, it should also be functional.
Another mistake that people do when giving party favors is to just give it with no information on it about the party or the celebration or to give it with the information engraved on it. The latter is actually done often and has actually been a practice in most cultures. Doing both is wrong because not giving any information about you or what your party is about defeats the purpose of giving the swag bag in the first place and giving too much information and actually putting them on the souvenir item is in bad taste.
What you should do is to put information on a separate small piece of paper and attach them on the gift. That way, they will have a reminder of where they got it, who gave it to them and what the event was. The gift itself should not have any trace of identification whatsoever. If they want to display the gift with the tag and keep it along with the rest of their souvenirs, they can choose to. The key here is the freedom to choose what they can do with the gift. If your guests want to use their gifts without having to explain every time about the inscriptions on it, it is their decision.

What is Marine Biology
Posted on: December 28, 2009What is Marine Biology?
Several individuals have always dreamed of becoming a marine biologist, but not many is actually informed about the real extent and coverage of the practice. Marine biology is a branch of science that particularly deals with aquatic life. You have to understand the different features to determine if it is the right profession for your capabilities and interests.
Definition of the Term
Marine biology is described as the study of life forms that live in saltwater or usually ocean environment. Several life forms may be included in the studies such as the analysis of fish, plants, marine mammals and other microscopic organisms. Marine biology may also cover the entire ocean ecosystem, or a particular kind of life form, including its interactions with other living beings and the habitat.
Marine biology may also be described as studies in the field or the analysis of information collected from different ocean sites. It can be very comparative in nature, such as analyzing the same bacteria that live in different oceans. It can also be specific on the particular species.
As a Science
Marine biology is highly related to other kinds of science, like climatology since it has effects on life forms in the ocean, animal behavior and oceanography. Some marine biologists may focus on the biological nature of a given animal, while others focus more on the behavior of the animal. Several times, individuals refer to marine biology only as the study of marine mammals, such as dolphins, seals and whales.
In reality, it represents a minor part of marine biology study. There are only limited marine mammals compared to large numbers of fish, plant and single-celled species in the ocean. Some less interesting species may have limited studies compared to the more glamorous marine mammals.
Grants and Activism
Marine biology sometimes can involve activism, since some scientists achieve high levels of education. Marine biology should be understood together with other existing sciences. Many individuals now aim to protect the ecosystems of the ocean, thus improving in their speaking and writing skills.
Several marine biologists can apply for grants. There are usually marine biology sites located in landlocked countries and states. Oceans and its many life forms have various effects on different areas. Prehistoric marine biology may also assess the tissues of extinct ocean life forms that still exist in areas where saltwater bodies are no longer found.
Knowing the Benefits
Marine biologists also continue to study to understand the nature and determine the many benefits of organisms in the ocean that can be highly helpful and supportive to human life. The different life forms in the ocean can have potential health advantages as well as provide the means to developing new medicines.
Some are even very helpful in preserving and protecting earthbound life forms. Marine biology has always fascinated people since several of the species in the ocean are still unknown. Some parts of the ocean remain inaccessible because of depth or temperature. Marine biologists are always open to the opportunity of becoming a part of new discoveries.

Understanding Gastric Bypass
Posted on: December 23, 2009Understanding Gastric Bypass
Gastric bypass surgery is done to primarily solve or treat morbid or severe obesity and other health problems associated with it. With this procedure the stomach is made smaller. The food will bypass part of the small intestine. By doing so, the patient will consume less because he feels full immediately. Getting full easily would reduce the calories taken by the body and eventually lead to weight loss.
Actually, gastric bypass is just among the many similar operations to reduce obesity. To refer all of these procedures, bariatric surgery is the term. These operations intend to reduce accumulated fatty tissues by altering the physiological and psychological attitude of a patient towards food and eating.
How does it alter normal digestion?
What normally happens is that after eating, the food would go through the stomach and then proceed to the small intestine. The nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine before it goes to the large intestine where waste is eventually pushed out of the body. The most common gastric bypass procedure, the Roux-en Y gastric bypass, alters this process.
In the Roux-en gastric bypass, a small pouch is made on the top part of the stomach. The lower part of the stomach, which is much smaller now, is connected directly to the middle part of the small intestine. The stomach was made smaller and at the same time, the intestine was cut short, the upper portion of the small intestine was bypassed. Both the upper portion of the stomach and the small intestine no longer digest food.
Statistics showed that patients would lose 60%, on the average, of their weight after the gastric bypass surgery. There are even who would say that they have lost 80% of their weight. There are studies showing that about 90% of patient who have undergone gastric surgery were able to maintain their weight loss after ten years of having the surgery performed.
Having gastric surgery is not risk-free though. People who have undergone this procedure would report more cases of gallstones, in other studies, they would also report nutritional issues like anemia or osteoporosis.
